Dr. Michael Krausz was one of two co-principal investigators for the opium tincture randomized controlled trial (OT-RCT), a phase-3 parallel-group non-inferiority randomized double-blind controlled clinical trial of safety and efficacy comparing opium tincture and methadone for treating opioid dependence.
The study was an international collaboration between University of British Columbia, Canada and Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Iran, which randomized 240 participants into two groups to test whether opium tincture is equally effective as methadone at retaining participants with opioid dependence in substitution treatment.
While this study has now been completed, our group is actively working on publications to share the results of this important trial.
